Goal Setting

Many of us take stock of our present situation and then try to predict what we think will happen next.

We do this, in particular, with our busy business lives.

Now, in this view the best way to predict the future is to create it for yourself.

And the best way to create your future is to state your goals not only  in the way you want them, but also in such a way that you can confidently go ahead and actually achieve them.

And don’t be afraid to use your imagination!

In fact, goal-setting is not dissimilar to the annual, well-meaning, but ultimately pointless wish list we dream up when we consider our New Year’s Resolutions after a mince pie and a few clarets.

Your goal should conform to the following general, but prescribed set of rules:

    • The goal is achievable, realistic but challenging
    • The goal is specific and measurable
    • The goal is toward what you want and not away from what you don’t want
    • The goal is what you really want and not what you should want
    • The goal is for you alone
    • The goal has a precise date when it will be achieved
  • The goal is ecological and its effects are positive for all others

When you internalise a goal you trigger your unconscious mind to make associations with your intended outcome – it is a very powerful technique.
